New to Google Ads

Start advertising on Google, set up properly from day one

New accounts often lose money in their first month to settings Google switches on by default. Get a plan before you spend, or have the account built for you, then run it yourself.

The mistakes that cost new advertisers most

Almost all of them are defaults. A proper setup turns them off until you have the data to justify them.

Letting Google choose your searches

Broad match and AI Max show your ads for searches you never picked. New accounts should start on exact and phrase match.

Paying for the wrong placements

Display expansion and Search Partners are switched on by default and spend budget away from Google search.

No conversion tracking

Without it you can't tell which keywords bring customers, and automated bidding has nothing to learn from.

Accepting every recommendation

Many of Google's recommendations raise budgets or loosen targeting. Auto-apply should be off.

Sending ads to the homepage

One focused page per service, with a clear way to call or book, converts far better.

Smart campaigns

The simplified campaign type gives you very little control over where the money goes.

Is Google Ads right for you yet?

A good fit if

  • People already search for what you sell, in the areas you cover
  • Each customer is worth enough to pay for a few clicks to win them
  • You have a page that makes it easy to call, book or buy
  • You can give it a few weeks of steady budget to learn

Probably not the right fit if

  • Nobody searches for your product yet (social or display may suit you better)
  • The budget would only buy a handful of clicks a week

Not sure which side you're on? That's exactly what the launch plan answers.

How it works

  1. Book the launch plan

Tell us what you sell, where, and what a customer is worth to you.

  2. We check the numbers

Search volumes and costs per click for your keywords, before the call.

  3. Plan or build

Set it up yourself from the plan, or have us build it for you.

  4. Launch and learn

Run it yourself, add a monthly review, or hand it over as you grow.

Questions from new advertisers

How much should I spend on Google Ads when I start?

Enough to buy a meaningful number of clicks every day, so you can see what works within a few weeks rather than a few months. Costs per click vary hugely by sector, so we check the real figures for your keywords in the launch plan session and give you a budget based on them, not a guess.

Can't I just use Google's guided setup?

You can, but its defaults suit Google rather than a new advertiser on a tight budget: broad matching, Display and Search Partners switched on, AI features that show your ads for searches you never chose. A proper setup turns those off until you have the data to justify them.

Do I need a website?

You need a page that does one job well: explains what you offer and makes it easy to call, book or buy. It doesn't have to be a big site. If your page isn't ready, we'll tell you what to fix before you spend anything.

Google called and offered to set my account up. Should I let them?

Google's support teams can be helpful, but their job is to grow your spend. Get independent advice before accepting recommendations that raise budgets or loosen targeting.

Can I run it myself after the setup?

Yes, that's the idea for most new advertisers. We hand it over with a walkthrough, and you can add a £75 monthly review if you'd like a senior check while you find your feet.

How long before I see results?

Ads can bring traffic on day one, but it usually takes a few weeks of data to see what converts and cut what doesn't. Plan for a learning period rather than judging it in the first week.

Get it right before you spend

An hour with a senior specialist before you start is the cheapest way to avoid paying for Google's defaults.
